The Office of Education was established in 2005 and has since coordinated, managed, and run many of its own programs. The following programs are no longer active. Learn more about the impact they made towards NOAA’s mission.
Environmental Literacy Program
From 2005-2025, NOAA’s Environmental Literacy Program provided grants and in-kind support for programs that educate and inspire people to use Earth system science. For 20 years, the program built capacity for institutions and networks to advance NOAA’s mission through formal (K-12) and informal education at national, regional, and local levels.
Some partnerships previously supported by the Environmental Literacy Program will continue under the Office of Education’s new Partnerships for Collaborative Learning program.
Young Changemakers Fellowship
The eeBLUE Young Changemakers Fellowship (YCF) was a program dedicated to collaborating with and empowering the next generation of ocean and environmental leaders. The Fellowship was established in 2023 and supported a total of 23 high school students through the program’s end in summer 2025.
