Place-based Education at Great Lakes National Marine Sanctuaries

This project supports Great Lakes national marine sanctuaries (NMS) to promote knowledge of the Great Lakes and Great Lakes Literacy Principles. Programming will engage youth to become the next generation of conservation thinkers, stewards, and leaders that care about the health and vibrancy of the Great Lakes. In particular, this project supports the Great Lakes national marine sanctuaries to build out the youth engagement aspect of the NMS “Get Into Your Sanctuary” initiative, using these sites as places to raise awareness about the value of our protected waters. Funding will encourage, facilitate, and improve partnerships with and access for youth, Indigenous peoples, and underserved communities to public lands and waters. It will address environmental justice through supporting access to sanctuaries.
