Ocean farmers

2021 eeBLUE aquaculture literacy awardee - Long Beach, California

The Aquarium of the Pacific offsite link, in collaboration with University of Southern California Sea Grant offsite link and Holdfast Aquaculture offsite link, is providing a foundation for more diverse opportunities to educate broader audiences about marine aquaculture. Focusing on seaweed aquaculture, the project is assessing how families learn about the sector through play-based activities for young children. The activities allow young learners to imagine they are ocean farmers and learn about what ocean farming is and looks like, and in developing the activities, aquarium staff are evaluating best practices for establishing collaborative programs. To hear more from the partners themselves, visit their May 2022 Harvest stories post: Ocean Farmers: Learning together through play. offsite link

It's been incredibly rewarding to partner with folks from the Aquarium of the Pacific and University of Southern California Sea Grant who also embody this mission and connect us to an audience we typically don't reach.
