Through this ~$35 million investment, NOAA will improve forward looking projections, data assimilation, numerical weather predictions, and models in order to improve the prediction of extreme weather and climate events and ocean and ecosystem changes, and deliver climate projects at the required time and geographic scales needed to inform decision making. From daily to decadal time scales, enhanced modeling is vital to enhance understanding of the Earth System and to develop data, forecasts, predictions, and projections of extreme events and climate.
