Grants at NOAA: Resources for Applicants, Recipients and Reviewers

NOAA’s mission is to understand and predict our changing environment–from the deep sea to outer space–and to manage and conserve America’s coastal and marine resources. To fulfill this mission, NOAA funding programs support a range of projects aligned with its objectives.

NOAA offers financial assistance to support diverse environmental research and planning and project implementation related to climate adaptation and environmental stewardship. Funding priorities emphasize critical areas such as climate research on mitigation, adaptation and resilience, sustainable fisheries, habitat restoration and stewardship, marine and estuarine research, environmental education, and scientific innovation. Each fiscal year, the Acquisition and Grants Office (AGO) oversees a comprehensive financial assistance program supporting NOAA’s mission. NOAA collaborates with a wide range of partners, including universities and colleges, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, and state entities. Annually, NOAA obligates approximately $3 billion and manages an active grant and financial assistance portfolio of roughly $10 billion.
