Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: A Transformational Opportunity for Habitats

July 29, 2022

Historic climate resilience funding for NOAA, made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will improve habitat restoration, coastal resilience, and weather forecasting infrastructure.

In June 2022, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced NOAA's nearly $3 billion investment in climate resilience over the next 5 years, thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The funding will help improve habitat restoration, coastal resilience, and weather forecasting infrastructure to make communities more resilient in the face of climate change.

NOAA Fisheries' Office of Habitat Conservation will play a large role in supporting these goals by launching habitat restoration projects all across the country. These projects will support vital ecosystems by:

  • Reopening stream and river passage for fish
  • Restoring marsh habitats which act as buffers for storm surges and flooding
  • Protecting corals that have been stressed and damaged by bleaching and rising ocean temperatures

On this episode of Dive in With NOAA Fisheries, we're discussing these projects with Director of the Office of Habitat Conservation Carrie Selberg Robinson.
