A brief overview of the history of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), since its founding in 1970. The formation of NOAA brought together several existing agencies, including three of our nation's earliest scientific agencies, the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (formed in 1807), the Weather Bureau of the United States (formed in 1870), and the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (formed in 1871).
