Directions to NOAA

NOAA CAMPUS - Silver Spring, MD

The NOAA Silver Spring campus is comprised of four buildings (SSMC1, SSMC2, SSMC3 and SSMC4) located at the intersection of Colesville Road and East-West Highway.

SSMC1 - 1335 East-West Highway
SSMC2 - 1325 East-West Highway
SSMC3 - 1315 East-West Highway
SSMC4 - 1305 East-West Highway

It is an easy walk from the Silver Spring Metro Station (Red Line). Public Parking is very limited but available under the four building complex. Additional Public Parking is available adjacent to the Metro Transit Center near Georgia Avenue and Wayne Avenue.

From the I-495 Beltway
Take Beltway Exit 30-B (Route 29 South) to Silver Spring. This is Colesville Road. Follow Colesville Road in the center lane until you reach downtown Silver Spring and cross Georgia Avenue, then merge into the left lane. Go past the Metro Transit Center, the next street is East-West Highway, Route 410. Make a left at the light onto East-West Highway. At the third building with the “Hand” statue in front, make a left into the Garage.

Or take Beltway Exit 31-B (South to Georgia Avenue/Silver Spring). Follow Georgia Avenue down to Colesville Road. Make a right onto Colesville Road into the left lane. Go past the Metro Transit Center, then make a left at the next light onto East-West Highway. At the third building, with the “Hand” statue in front, make a left into the Garage.

From Washington DC/ Reagan National Airport
Take I-395 North to Washington. Take 12th Street Exit and turn right on 16th Street. Turn Right on Colesville Road at the traffic circle. Make a right at the light onto East-West Highway. At the third building with the “Hand” statue in front, make a left into the Garage.

From Baltimore, MD/ Baltimore Washington International Airport
Take I-195 West to I-95 South. Take I-495 West To Silver Spring.  Follow instructions above provided from the Beltway.

From the METRO Subway system
Take the Red Line to Silver Spring. If you are coming from downtown Washington, DC, take the escalator steps toward the back of the train. If you’re coming South from Wheaton, take the escalator steps toward the front of the train.

Science Center/ Auditorium
If visiting the Science Center or Auditorium, continue out of the station turning toward the left. Walk under the train tracks and go to the left diagonally across the court yard between the two buildings until you reach East West-Highway. Turn to the left and walk up the street past the building with the “Hand” statue to the next building. Turn left onto the walkway.

The Science Center/ Auditorium is located past the entrance to 1305 and behind the wave pond off to the right. (About one block from the subway station).

Visitor Access
Arrangements for an escort must be made in advance. A  visitor must provide the Security Officer a valid photo identification and destination. Valid identification may be a Driver's License, employer identification or other photo ID if you do not have a Department of Commerce or NOAA issued badge. Visitors must be prepared to follow security procedures that may include search and/ or x-ray of their personal items.
