Are any of these items on your shopping list?
This year, give your friends and family something a little outside the box! Give the gift of safety and security. We’ve rounded up three holiday giving ideas to help make life go a little more smoothly:
NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards
These life-saving radios broadcast immediate warnings about tornadoes, floods, and even a chemical spill in your area. You also can turn them on anytime to get your local weather conditions and forecasts.
The radios are available at electronics stores, marine supply stores, mail order catalogs and online retailers (NOAA does not sell the radios). Prices vary by model and options, but typically range between $20 and $80. You can program your radio to get alerts just for your area by using these codes.
Emergency Locator Beacon
If you want to ensure the safety of a mariner, pilot or weekend hiker, think about an emergency locator beacon. If you find yourself in peril and have one of these devices with you, NOAA can find and locate you by satellite as part of the Search and Rescue Satellite System.
Since 1982, more than 35,000 people have been rescued worldwide under the satellite-aided tracking system. The beacons can be detected instantly and provide search and rescue personnel with vital registration information. They are easy to register and can be purchased from an online retailer or local marine store. Don't forget: You must register your
beacon with NOAA, which can be done easily online.
NOAA Diving Manual, Diving for Science and Technology, 6th Edition
This definitive encyclopedia of diving published by Best Publishing Company is a must-have for serious divers. Topics include diving equipment, breathing gas mixtures, safety, first aid, marine life and a history of diving. You can order the manual online offsite link or by phone at 800-468-1055 ext.10.
Happy Holidays!
