Beginning at approximately 11 p.m. EDT last night, some people were not able to access certain NOAA websites. Weather.gov was not impacted, but noaa.gov and nhc.noaa.gov (hurricanes.gov) were. The problem was immediately reported, and technicians began working to resolve the issue. Access to all NOAA websites was fully restored at 2 a.m. EDT.

During this time, NWS forecasters continued to issue forecast products through normal dissemination systems and using NWSChat, social media, NOAA Weather Radio, and other information channels to communicate critical forecast information to partners and customers.

The root issue was traced to a problem at NOAA’s Web Operations Center. A hardware anomaly affected how NOAA sites identify themselves to the web. This interrupted access to some NOAA.gov websites, depending on the Internet carrier; however, the site remained accessible for many. We have determined that this was not caused by a security incident.
